Prayer for more climate justice

The World Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, will take place from November 10 – 21. Preparations are in full swing. A number of Christian organizations such as Misereor and Bread for the World will also be on site, observing the negotiations and contributing the voices of civil society. This is a crucial moment. Together with many Christians around the world, we are campaigning for more climate justice and are praying for the success of the conference and the joint intensified efforts of the global community with Pope Francis’ “A Prayer for our Earth. It can be found in the final part of the encyclical Laudato si’ and is expressly formulated as a prayer for all and can be used ecumenically.

Almighty God,
you who are present in the vastness of the universe
and in the smallest of your creatures,
who embraces all that exists,
with your tenderness,
pour into us the power of your love,
so that we may guard life and beauty.
Flood us with peace,
so that we may live as brothers and sisters
and harm no one.
God of the poor,
help us to save the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
who are so precious in your eyes.
Heal our lives,
so that we may be protectors of the world and not robbers,
so that we may sow beauty and not contamination and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those
who seek only profit
at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover
the value of all things
and to look at them with admiration;
to recognize that we are deeply connected with all creatures
on our way to your infinite light.
Thank you for being with us every day.
Please encourage us in our fight
for justice, love and peace.
