Bakery Assisi Mission – “Peace and all Good Development Project”.
Assisi Mission is located in the western part of the Free State. The population of this rural area is about 700 people.
The nearest bakeries are 35 min. away in Ladybrand (nearest town – one way). The long thought of bread supply project in Assisi Mission (with Assisi Mission School, Bophelo Life Children and Youth Care Centre, Retreat Centre, villagers of Assisi Mission, Sisters of the Provincial House) and the surrounding farms has now come to fruition and the long and costly shopping trips have been eliminated. In the Sisters’ local bakery, young people from the village receive a training opportunity and learn to make good quality bread and other baked goods. Jobs are being created in this inadequate infrastructure. Healthy and nutritious food is provided for the children in school and Bophelo Life Children and Youth Care Centre.
In June 2020, the health department approved a renovated small building of the Sisters, which now serves as a bakery, and the purchased machines according to the prescribed hygiene standards. The enterprise is intended to be self-sustaining in the long term and is part of the larger concept of village development. A car to deliver the bread to the farms in the area has now been purchased. However, the company still needs support to procure raw materials and pay for training costs. We are therefore grateful for any financial support.
