Today’s excursion took us to Kimberley, a town in the Northern Cape. This is where the work of our congregation in South Africa began.
First we visited a school in a camp where two indigenous tribes displaced from Namibia live.
Then we went to the “Big Whole”. The history of diamond mining is impressively shown there. There were many thousands from many countries who wanted to make their fortune there in the 19th century after a chance discovery by children. This is how the town came into being. The picture shows us on the bridge over the “Big Whole”, a huge whole, originally created by a volcanic eruption, in which many diamonds were found.
On the way home, we had the pleasure of seeing giraffes, zebras, springboks and ostriches near the road.
